AH, what BS. Only bumiputras (both poor and RICH) can invest more. What kind of “racially fair” country is this?

  2. #2 by Irwan on November 7, 2006 - 5:47 am

Well mr aw, there are lot more way to invest rather than ASB. Emily has plenty of advices in this matter.

    http://mywealthplanner.wordpress.com/

Even some investments might produce more return than ASB’s 7 %.

  3. #3 by aw on November 7, 2006 - 9:31 am

So… “just go and invest in something else? This is only for Bumiputras?”

Just makes me feel like a 2nd class citizen. I tell everyone I am Malaysian and I contribute to the development for the country. Why are these capital-guaranteed investments available only to Bumiputras? Have they contributed more to the country than I have?

If they are available only to the poor, I can understand. If every Malaysian has the same quota in investing in ASB, I understand. But no.

When I was a student, I proudly tell people, Malaysians live in harmony! There is no prejudice!

    What a fool I am.

I’m sure you are a nice guy in person, but it seems that most Bumiputras are just comfortable where they are in the exploitation of the minorities and like you turn a blind eye to the injustices.

I mean, where do you see this going in the long term? Is this fair for everyone? Will we be able to shake hands and enjoy a teh tarik as friends if your rulers insist on unjustly barrring minorities from investments?

  4. #4 by Nuzz on November 8, 2006 - 3:15 pm

    Mr AW..
to clarify on the matter, ASB has a deposit ceiling of 200K.. so.. not so good for those rich bumiputera. :p
as for the interest, 7% isnt that much compared to Mutual Fund that can reap even more from the investment.

So these are the historical and moral justifications for the special privileges for the Malays.

    hey Irwan.

I’m wondering if your calculator is an accurate means of calculating what I should have got annually.

I lent some money to my cousin mid year, and he is in process of paying me back including interest lost on my ASB during the time he borrowed. Can this be used to calculate?

I’m a bit of a “bonggol” with numbers. If you could assist I would be grateful.

    Thanks

    Abd. Rahman Alias

Hi Jim, to accommodate your need, I tried to compile a new version of ASB calculator that include bonus dividend. This one is more accurate than the previous version. And I think it will suit your need to calculate the outcome of your friend’s loan. check it here

    http://www.irwan.biz/asb-calculator-v2/

  11. #11 by Jim on January 30, 2007 - 5:26 pm

    Thanks Irwan,

I noted you said “This one is more accurate than the previous.” Does this mean that your calculator will yield fairly close results or will it be able to yield to the cent the same result as ASB would.

    Thanks.

  12. #12 by Irwan on January 30, 2007 - 7:51 pm

    Hi Jim,

‘Yield to the cent the same result’ might be a strong word for it. The calculator just use a single dividend plus bonus rate. So the most accurate result that you will get is when the real ASB use the same rate for 20 years.

To use this calculator, you have to assume yourself the average dividend and bonus rate for the duration of your loan to your friend.

However, the calculator follows the exact method of how to calculate ASB dividend.

And in case you need a calculator that calculate the dividend with different rate every year, just tell me. I’ll edit it for you.

How many percent was bonus this year and dividend this year? My book update gave me 3 entries:

    Pelarasan 2006: $0.00
    Pndapatan ASB 2006: $x,000.00
    Bonus ASB 2006: $y,000.00

But it doesnt say the percentage.

Nuzz, correction, the ceiling for the investment can increase each year, up to 320k maybe more im not sure..Plus if you have many children, thats a bonus too, since you can stash your money using their name in joint accounts. Basically, if you have 2 million to play around with and 10 kids, feel free to put 200k in each account..each year you get rm 160,000 guaranteed free money.

    dear Irwan,
i think this topic is very interesting…
some questions to ask you 1) if we want to make ASB loan, which bank we should choose? i mean that give lowest interest? 2) we only earn positive gain if we make loan and at the same time we invest by ourselves in the ASB account? i really hope that u can answer my question..a bit of confius here

    • #22 by Irwan on May 4, 2008 - 5:44 pm

i can only answer the second question. for the first one, i think it’s best for you to inquire directly to the banks.

From the calculation, ASB loan works best with additional investment by yourself. so if you want to go with loan route, I suggest to make room(financially) for your own contribution as well.

      regards

  22. #23 by S Rahman on July 21, 2008 - 8:41 pm

    Hi Irwan,

As far as I have noticed. ASB bonus is calculated by average fund for 5 years divided by 5 and multiply by bonus percentage. It’s not simply added into dividend percentage and straight away get the figure.

    To all the non-bumiputera readers..
    1) Have you checked Forbes magazine? For 5 years in a row, what race occupies the top 10 richest people?
    2) Have you look how Singapore handles Malay? See how they ‘define’ 2nd class?

    How ungrateful

saya orang baru pasal loan ni dan saya amat berminat pasal loan ASB.kalau boleh la saya nak buat gini…

1)loan 10k dari asb selama 25 thn utk rm56 sebulan…setahun pas tu…reloan utk tutup loan pertama 15k pula.so dalam asb ada 25k.kalau dapat interest asb lepas setahun 25k x 7% interest asb = RM 1750..so senang la tak perlu keluar duit lagi mau bayar loan ambik ja dari interest…kalau saya buat gitu sampai asb penuh boleh ke?saya sedang terfikir mau buat macam tu kalau boleh…so kalau ada apa2 pandangan tolong bagitau ok!saya ni bole lah dikatakan “noob” dalam hal2 macam ni haha
