Iphone 3G in Malaysia?

It’s quite disappointing that after a long, hopeful waiting, Iphone 3G won’t be officially launched in Malaysia. It’s sadder still, our southern neighbor, Singapore, is included in the official release soon. Heck, even Botswana is included.

However, as we already know, Malaysia is full of dedicated Iphone bringers. I myself will try my best to fulfill Malaysian’s hunger of these ’Twice as fast. Half the price’ Iphone. I’ll update with the link to my bulk later.

Update: Many news confirm that activation for the Iphone will be on the spot. Meaning they won’t let you leave the store if you don’t activate your phone. At the moment, there is possible way for me to conduct my bulk yet.

Even more Update: The best place to get Iphone is New Zealand as its iphones are officially unlocked. So no need warranty-voiding hack or sim-adapter hassle. However the price is not very nice and friendly now as it’s retailed at 979NZD and 1129NZD for 8gb and 16gb respectively.

  4. #10 by Irwan on June 11, 2008 - 4:38 pm

because there is no stock anymore for old iphone. plus for the 3g version, there is still no good news about non-contract availability.

    • #32 by jerry on June 24, 2008 - 11:14 pm

      hi andy,

is it true that the current iphone 3g does not require any hacking? i was about to ask my brother who is working at U.S. to buy back to malaysia. pls let me know asap.

      • #33 by Shen on July 2, 2008 - 4:47 pm

Jerry depending on where you buy it. AND with or without contract. Without then no. No jailbreak required BUT it will cost u i believe cheapest ive found is 1900 – 3000 riggit. With contract. yes you will need to unlock. but then again there are penalties… etc… its complicated.

  23. #34 by Shen on June 25, 2008 - 5:26 pm

I’ve been looking alot in to the whole iphone 3g release thing and different ways to get around the system and so far i believe its gonna be pretty difficult to get a good cheap unlocked one. To the guy who said i’m gonna get one in canada cheap bla bla bla. unfortunately its not that simple. u need to register into a 1 and half yr contract with the company and probably pay a fine if u cancel early. and it will be a expensive fine at that. I’m in switzerland now where the iphone will be released and even with that it i’m still hesistant on buying one. apparently they will be selling unlocked iphones in europe but they ofcourse are not idiots an unlocked iphone will cost quite abit more and go to as much as 600 USD thats RM1800 give or take. So even if you do find an unlocked one on malaysian soil the odds that it is under RM1800 ringgit are minimal at best. However Irwan if you do manage to smuggle some cheap locked ones over and THEN unlock them and be able to sell them for a more reasonable price. Do let me know. And as a courtesy if I figure it out i’ll let you know as well. 🙂 You have my email.

if that really was true it would break so many rules that apple has implemented to keep the iphone 3g within their `boundaries` so if that really were true, there will be noise. Lots of noise.

  36. #51 by bestman on July 5, 2008 - 7:42 am

hello plz i will like to know if really if u buy the iphone3G it will not work in malaysia because i plan on buying one direct from the states with shipping so plz let me know if there is any update on the iphone3G before 11th 07 2008

so like how much will it cost me in da states ($199 or more )to unluck it and can i buy it over the net?

    • #56 by Irwan on July 7, 2008 - 1:10 am

200 is with contract, u have to pay around 70usd per month for the contract. at its launch, apple will not selling it online. and the contract is signed in the store itself.

  40. #57 by bestman on July 7, 2008 - 4:21 am

so its somehow imposable to buy it from the states
🙁 so have to wait for officially release in Malaysia thats not good ,cuz i have been waiting on this i phone for months and not in Malaysia may be if i go to Singapore and try to buy it there.

    • #58 by Natasha on July 12, 2008 - 4:40 pm

I am from new zealand and i think Vodafone Nz i actually riping the customers off by trying to sell the iphone for $549 and a two year contract for $80 a month, that comes to $6000 for the two years. We can get The 8gb iphone for 979.00 but then we cant use the data.it sucks

  41. #59 by bestman on July 7, 2008 - 4:23 am

and which line will work wit the i phone in Malaysia

    • #60 by Shen on July 7, 2008 - 4:27 am

it doesn’t matter which line. when a phone is ‘jailbroken’ it can technically b used with any and all networks… and no don’t bother to wait for it to come out in malaysia. it probably never officially will.

      • #61 by bestman on July 8, 2008 - 12:53 pm

so how can i get in singapore and for how much.? since it will not be out in malaysia.

        • #62 by Irwan on July 8, 2008 - 1:22 pm

iphone in singapore will be sold under contract too. I don’t have information on how much it will be.

  42. #63 by bestman on July 8, 2008 - 4:50 pm

so where do you think is the best place to get it in asia

  43. #64 by bisu on July 8, 2008 - 6:32 pm

Sadly said, in US you need subscribe to a 2-year subscription agreement with AT&T before you can purchase it. You are required to unlock the iphone in-store where you bought it after you have signed the subscription agreement. However, AT&T reported that they also will sell the non-agreement iphone however, AT&T did not say anything about unlocking those iphone.

Assuming this is implemented in other countries such as Singapore. I guess we need to hold on to buy those 3g Iphone before anyone can unlock and jailbreak it.

  44. #65 by Far8 on July 9, 2008 - 2:02 am

    Hello there…
I wanna asked something about this “twice speed half price” iphone. Is it necessary for this iphone to be unlocked like the previous one?

  45. #66 by Far8 on July 9, 2008 - 2:23 am

If it need to be unlocked, why this iphone is launched in several country? come on man..think about it.is that possible that one of this country sell this iphone without contract? if it so, that will be good news for those like me who don’t want their iphone to be unlocked.

    • #67 by Shen on July 9, 2008 - 2:32 am

You should read up more on the iphone. Its unlocked in france at germany for about 1000 euros. If they have contract they are STILL locked to a specific service provider. U have to unlock it YOURSELF.

  46. #68 by Tai on July 9, 2008 - 12:59 pm

  62. #86 by Shen on July 17, 2008 - 6:38 am

Yee Rock, almost 3000ringgit for the 8gb?… You have got to be high on something lol… nothing personal of course, just humouress.

  63. #87 by harimau on July 17, 2008 - 9:29 am

All i know is that the iphone is attach to specific provider like AT & T. However, my friend from australia told me that they charge AUS 80 to unlock the iphone but still bind with a stupid 2 yrs contract. So its pointless to buy oversea and bring it back. By the way, yeerock, RM 2850 for 8gb is absurd. However, there are still some rich malaysian that can afford ur price and my friend actually paid 3k for the first iphone last year…cheers.

    • #88 by yeerock on May 4, 2009 - 4:58 pm

now can get from maxis already. easier ^^

  64. #89 by Irwan on July 17, 2008 - 3:16 pm

actually the 8gb price from yee rock is quite acceptable considering the situation now. the price without contract is around 900AUD including the fee to unlock.

sigh…i cant hold it any longer…
    anyone selling it yet?

  67. #93 by Soo Pei on July 21, 2008 - 1:12 pm

Here is some insider news. As of today, the iPhone 3G is looking good to reach Malaysian shores. It will be tied to a carrier. It’s not the carrier that everybody thinks it is. It’s either yellow or blue. Green no go!

All i can say is that don’t sign up with a commitment plan yet. For those who already have, start asking you provider how to get out of it.

News should start coming in around a months time.

    Stay Tuned!

    • #94 by helmy on July 28, 2008 - 2:28 am

r u sure about this? how credible is your source? i have been waiting for the iphone for so long… reading about it almost every day… please confirm it again for all of us… thanks again for your kind cooperation.

hi I am a malaysian student studying in the uk. I have an iPhone 3g I wanna sell. No gimmicks. Genuinely interested in making a deal. Email me at mytlai@googlemail.com if interested.

  74. #101 by Kenny Voon on July 27, 2008 - 11:43 pm

I’ve seen lots of local sites claiming that they have iphone 3g unlocked and ready to sell. I find it quite dodgy and it could be a scam.

The only hope at the moment is to wait for local mobile companies to offer it officially in a bundling plan. Hopefully not tied with a super expensive one. Just in case you didn’t know, there’s a petition at http://www.iphone3gformalaysia.com which aims to have the 3G Iphone in Malaysia.

  75. #102 by helmy on July 28, 2008 - 2:34 am

FYI, i have checked ebay international for an iphone from new zealand. it costs NZ dollar 1100 which translates to RM 2650. this does not include taxes and delivery charges. all-in-all, i would say it would cost us iphone-lovers RM 2800 at the most. and comment no 67 from Soo Pei has said that iphone will imminently and eventually come to malaysia. an ‘insider’ told her that. so, weight your options. till next time… bye…

how much is iphone 3g after tax ..in malaysia ..??? do u have any stock???

  82. #113 by woolie on September 16, 2008 - 2:40 pm

y is the phone so expensive in malaysia market?
its usd299 (rm 1000) in US, to hack it might cost rm200 extra (the most). and they selling rm almost rm5K per piece????? its too much. especially when the 3G one is much cheaper than previous model. i got mine (non 3G) for rm1900 early this year.the 3G should b cheaper. would love to have the 3G but the price is nonsense… luckily my brother is coming back from US. gonna ask him to buy me one and hack it myself. dont wanna contribute to this cut throat business.

  83. #114 by Irwan on September 16, 2008 - 4:20 pm

miss woolie, usd200 price does include 2 years contract which binds you for 70usd+ payment per month.that’s why it’s expensive

  84. #115 by ramis on September 19, 2008 - 5:37 pm

hi irwan…just wanna ask u that can we unlock the 3g iphone here even we already sign with at&t in usa…..reply me soon thank u bro…..

  85. #116 by dom on September 20, 2008 - 10:25 pm

Market price should be 2700-2900! Why unlock when you can buy unlocked from factory.

    hello guys!
just surfing around the websites to know how to unlocked iphone. found this website. and i just read those comments above.

im a malaysian and i just bought iphone 3g 16g at london, 02 store for GBP410 includes 02 simpack as u need to pay extra GBP10 for the simpack. yes u can buy iphone down there as they have d “pay and go” plan. but there is a catch! u wouldnt have the warranty of the iphone if u do unlocking. i think most of u may know about it anyway.

i do my unlocked at london. but it didnt works as when i reached malaysia few days ago. so i have to do my unlocked in malaysia which is VERY EXPENSIVE! in lowyatt @ sg wang. the cheapest ive got is rm380 and the most expensive is rm500. they have 2 type of unlocked. 1 with d sim and 1 wif the phone itself. i heard rumors that until now they didnt found any ways to unlocked the iphone without using the sim. im not sure about it as i have sent my iphone to the shop to do the unlocking for me. quite scared rite now! tmrw i will get my iphone from them and hope it wud works!

for the software, my sis did it in malaysia with 2.1 version but her software cant load at all. only for a day.

as for me, im quite dissapointed actually for having this iphone coz its just a rumours that it is really good. but after having it and using it, its not that good. my advice, u must really know how to use it as it will only be a simple tool if u dunno how to utilise it.

The SIM card in this Iphone does not appear to be supported. – Only compatitible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit supported Carrier’s store to received a replacement SIM card.” bila saya ke maxis , mereka tak boleh tolong sebab mereka hanya ada warranty untuk iPhone 3G yg dibeli dari maxis sahaja. Sekian.. Reedzuan

With high quality products, best service and good reputation, we have won a great support from customers, and become stronger and more powerful.

As expected, Apple announced a new iPhone at WWDC 2009, and while the new iPhone 3G S offers a number of advancements, some of the rumors turned out to be false.

We have been doing some digging to learn what the specs for the handset are, and while we have most details, we still do not know what Processor and RAM are installed. This should become available over the coming days.

Most of the changes have been made under the hood, and it is not until you decide to take a picture that you get to see that the new improved 3-
megapixel camera has been included. The new Apple iPhone 3G S can now
    do video recording.
